Reducing our carbon footprint

Our climate change strategy includes two reduction targets:

  • energy - gigajoules (GJ)
  • emissions - carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2 e)

CO is the main greenhouse gas emitted from our activities, including:

  • natural gas combustion at Bell Bay until closure in April 2009
  • diesel-powered generation at King and Flinders Islands' power stations
  • fleet vehicles
  • electricity consumption in buildings and facilities, including offices and pump stations.

A small amount of emissions are in the form of:

  • hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) - found in building and vehicle air conditioning
  • sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) - a gas used in electrical circuitry and switchgear.
