Hydro Tasmania announces CEO departure

Hydro Tasmania Chairman Dr David Crean today announced that CEO Vince Hawksworth will leave the business in May next year to take on a new role as CEO of TrustPower NZ.

TrustPower is New Zealand's fourth largest electricity retailer, and fifth largest electricity generator.

Dr Crean said the Board will now commence a recruitment process. Mr Hawksworth will continue to lead the business over the next few months.

"It is disappointing to be losing Vince at this time as he has played an important part in taking Hydro Tasmania forward after the connection of Basslink,” Dr Crean said. “On behalf of the Board I wish Vince and his family every success for the future.”

Mr Hawksworth said it had not been an easy decision.

“Hydro Tasmania has made great progress in the National Electricity Market and in taking our consulting services to national and international markets. However, I have decided for career and family reasons the time is right,” he said.

Mr Hawksworth became CEO at Hydro Tasmania in August 2006.
